Who trades and when

The Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE), operated by Japan Exchange Group, is Japan's largest exchange and one of the largest in Asia, with companies such as Toyota, Sony and SoftBank and the Nikkei 225 index. For anyone in Brazil, the session takes place in the evening and overnight.

Since November 5, 2024 the afternoon session closes at 15:30 (it used to close at 15:00): the morning session runs 9:00–11:30 and the afternoon session 12:30–15:30 (JST), with a one-hour lunch break. Japan does not observe daylight saving time and neither does Brazil, so the difference between the two is fixed.

Because the Japanese session ends in the early hours in Brasília, Tokyo is often read by Brazilian investors as a gauge of Asian sentiment before Europe and B3 open.
