Find out how many days, weeks, months and years lie between two dates, with the weekday of each. Handy for deadlines, pregnancy tracking, vacations, contracts and events.
How the days between two dates are counted
The calculator converts both dates to calendar days and subtracts them, so the answer is exact regardless of leap years or month lengths. By default the end date is not counted: from March 1 to March 10 is 9 days. This matches how most people say "in 9 days". Tick "Include end date" when both ends count, as in a hotel booking priced per day, a rental period or a 10-day course that starts and ends on those dates; the same example becomes 10 days.
Years, months and days
The breakdown adds whole months to the start date first and then counts the leftover days. From January 15, 2026 to April 20, 2027 you get 1 year, 3 months and 5 days. When the start falls on the 29th, 30th or 31st, the month step is clamped to the last day of a shorter month, so January 31 plus one month lands on February 28 (or 29 in a leap year).
Examples
- Deadlines: a 90-day notice period that starts today ends on a date you can find by adding 90 days in the date calculator.
- Pregnancy and milestones: a typical pregnancy lasts 280 days (40 weeks) from the first day of the last period; use the weeks-and-days result to follow the week you are in.
- Age and anniversaries: put a birth date as the start and today as the end to get age in years, months and days.
- Leap years: from February 28 to March 1 is 1 day in 2027 but 2 days in 2028.
Hours and minutes
Hours and minutes are shown as approximate values because they multiply whole calendar days by 24 and 1,440. They ignore daylight saving changes, which can make a real day 23 or 25 hours long in countries that observe it. For a live countdown to a specific moment, use the countdown timer; to know what weekday a date falls on, the result already shows it.
Calendar days vs business days
This tool counts every calendar day, weekends and holidays included, which is what most contracts, notice periods and travel plans use. If your rule counts only working days, subtract the weekends (roughly 2 out of every 7 days) and the local holidays manually, or check the wording of the rule: "30 days" almost always means calendar days unless it says otherwise.
