Where in Brazil does the sun come up first, and where does the day end last? On Saturday, October 3, 2026, the earliest sunrise by local clock is in Lábrea (AM) at 05:02, and the latest sunset is in Barra do Quaraí (RS) at 18:52. This page compares all 5,571 Brazilian municipalities and links to six daily top-50 rankings: earliest and latest sunrise, earliest and latest sunset, longest and shortest day.
Each row shows the municipality with the earliest and the latest sunrise inside one state today, by local clock. The difference inside a state comes from longitude (eastern municipalities see the sun first) and latitude, and it is larger in states that are wide from east to west or that stretch far north to south. Click a state to see its cities.
All rankings use the local clock time of each city for the Brasília date shown at the top, so "earliest" means the lowest time on a wall clock in that place. Brazil has four official time zones (UTC−2 for Fernando de Noronha, UTC−3 for most of the country, UTC−4 for the Center-West and most of Amazonas, UTC−5 for Acre), and when a city's zone differs from Brasília the tables also show the Brasília-time equivalent. The sunrise and sunset rankings are mostly a story of longitude inside the time zone: a city east of its zone's central meridian gets the sun earlier on the clock (4 minutes per degree). The day-length rankings, in contrast, depend on latitude and the season and ignore time zones altogether.
The spread between the extremes is 92 minutes for sunrise (from 05:02 in Lábrea (AM) to 06:34 in Jacareacanga (PA)) and 99 minutes for sunset (from 17:13 in Lábrea (AM) to 18:52 in Barra do Quaraí (RS)). The easternmost point of the mainland, Ponta do Seixas in João Pessoa (PB), is where the first sunlight touches continental Brazil; Fernando de Noronha lies farther east but runs one hour ahead of Brasília. At the other end, the classic "from Oiapoque to Chuí" runs from Uiramutã (RR) in the north (12h 03min of daylight today) to Chuí (RS) in the far south (12h 29min).
By local clock, the earliest sunrise today is in Lábrea (AM), at 05:02. The 50th place on the ranking is Tibau do Sul (RN), at 05:04.
Where does the sun set last today?
The latest sunset by local clock is in Barra do Quaraí (RS), at 18:52. The earliest is in Lábrea (AM), at 17:13.
Which city has the longest day and which has the shortest?
Today the longest day is in Chuí (RS), with 12h 29min of daylight, and the shortest in Uiramutã (RR), with 12h 03min: a difference of 26 minutes.
Why does the ranking use local time instead of Brasília time?
Because that is the time each resident sees on the clock. Brazil has four time zones (UTC−2 to UTC−5), so the pages also give the Brasília equivalent when a city's zone differs. Fernando de Noronha, for example, comes 3,669th in the earliest sunrise ranking.
What is the easternmost point of mainland Brazil?
Ponta do Seixas, in João Pessoa (PB), is the easternmost point of the Brazilian mainland, where the first light of the day touches continental territory. Fernando de Noronha, an island, lies even farther east but uses a different time zone. In the local-clock rankings, though, the leaders are cities far east of the meridian of their own time zone, not necessarily those on the coast.
Are the rankings updated?
Yes, every day. Times are calculated for the Brasília date (2026-10-03 in this version) for all 5,571 cities in the dataset, using NOAA astronomical formulas.
