States with cities outside Brasília time

Seven states have at least one municipality outside UTC-3. In Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rondônia, Roraima and Acre the whole state shares a single zone. Amazonas is split between UTC-4 and UTC-5, and Pernambuco is on UTC-3 except for the island of Fernando de Noronha. The counts below come from the municipality list used across this site.

Acre (AC) 22––– 22 Whole state on UTC-5
Amazonas (AM) 1349–– 62 Split across 2 zones

Pernambuco (PE) ––1841 185 Only Fernando de Noronha differs
Rondônia (RO) –52–– 52 Whole state on UTC-4

The remaining 19 states and the Federal District are entirely on UTC-3. Note that the time page of a state shows the time of its capital: for Amazonas that is Manaus (UTC-4), even though 13 of its municipalities are on UTC-5, and for Pernambuco it is Recife (UTC-3), not Noronha (UTC-2).

Business hours shared with Brasília

A 09:00 to 18:00 workday on both sides
ZoneShared (Brasília time)Shared (local time)Hours
UTC-4 (-1h)10:00 – 18:0009:00 – 17:008
UTC-5 (-2h)11:00 – 18:0009:00 – 16:007
UTC-2 (+1h)09:00 – 17:0010:00 – 18:008

With UTC-4 the overlap is a full eight hours, and with UTC-5 you lose an extra hour, which is why late morning and early afternoon in Brasília are the best slots for Rio Branco. Fernando de Noronha is the opposite case: it is one hour ahead, so its workday starts earlier than Brasília's.

No daylight saving time

Brazil abolished daylight saving time in 2019, so all four offsets are fixed: UTC-2, UTC-3, UTC-4 and UTC-5 all year, with no clock changes in any state. The difference between Brasília and the western states is therefore always the same. Read the full story on our daylight saving time page, or see all Brazilian time zones.
