What changes in the difference to Brasília

Brasília stays on UTC−3, so every hour of change comes from the other side. The table compares mid-January (northern winter) with mid-July (northern summer) of 2033. A positive difference means the city is ahead of Brasília; a negative one means it is behind.

A practical example: the London Stock Exchange opens at 8:00 a.m. London time, which is 05:00 in Brasília in winter and 04:00 in summer. See the market hours around the world for the full schedule.

The in-between weeks: when the US and Europe are out of step in 2033

The US and Europe do not switch on the same day, so twice a year the gap between them is one hour shorter than usual. For anyone scheduling meetings between Brazil, the US and Europe these are the dangerous weeks: a call that worked in February can land an hour off. The windows below are computed from the time zone database.

US–Europe offset windows in 2033
WindowPeriodDaysBrasília–New YorkBrasília–ParisParis–New York
March: US already on summer time, Europe not yet Mar 13 → Mar 2714 1h behind4h ahead5h
Oct.–Nov.: Europe already back, US still on summer time Oct 30 → Nov 67 1h behind4h ahead5h

For comparison, outside these windows Brasília is 2h ahead of New York in winter and 1h ahead in summer, and Paris is 4h ahead of Brasília in winter and 5h in summer. Paris is always 6h ahead of New York, except in the windows above. When a meeting involves all three places in late March or between late October and early November, check it against the meeting planner or the time zone converter.

How daylight saving time works in Europe

Under EU Directive 2000/84/EC, summer time runs from 01:00 UTC on the last Sunday of March to 01:00 UTC on the last Sunday of October, so every member state changes at the same instant. The United Kingdom, Switzerland and Norway follow the same calendar. In practice that means 2:00 a.m. becomes 3:00 a.m. in Paris, Berlin or Rome, 1:00 a.m. becomes 2:00 a.m. in London, Lisbon and Dublin, and 3:00 a.m. becomes 4:00 a.m. in Athens and Helsinki. The dates on this page come from the time zone database and are cross-checked against the rule; the rules are as of the page's generation and may change.

Who does not change the clock in Europe

Russia (including Moscow), Belarus, Turkey and Iceland keep the same clock all year, and so do Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan. Russia abolished its clock changes in 2011 and 2014 and Turkey moved to permanent UTC+3 in 2016. The table shows the difference to Brasília now and whether the time zone database has any change in 2033.

What if Europe ends clock changes?

As of October 2026, clocks still change twice a year in the European Union. In 2018 the European Commission proposed ending seasonal changes, and the European Parliament voted in favor in March 2019, but the Council of the EU never reached the agreement needed, so no new directive has been adopted. Each country would pick permanent summer or winter time, which would also change the gap to Brazil for good. This page reflects the rules in force; check official sources before relying on future dates.

And Brazil?

Brazil has had no daylight saving time since 2019, so Brasília stays on UTC−3 all year and only the other side of the conversion moves. For the history and for the next clock changes in every country, see daylight saving time by country.
