Canada is 1 hour behind Brasília right now. When it is 12:00 in Brasília, it is 11:00 in Canada. This gap is not fixed: it moves with daylight saving time.
How many hours apart today
To find the time in Canada, subtract 1 hour from the time in Brasília. Canada follows America/Toronto (UTC-4), while Brasília is on UTC-3, so it is earlier there: when it is 12:00 in Brasília, it is 11:00 in Canada.
Canada spans more than one time zone; the figures here use the reference zone (Ottawa), so other regions differ by one or more hours.
Until 01:00 in Brasília it is still the previous calendar day in Canada.
Daylight saving time: does the gap change?
Yes. Canada changes its clocks, so the difference has two values: -2 hours on standard time and -1 hour on daylight saving time (+ means ahead of Brasília, - behind). Daylight saving time starts in March and ends in November. Today the gap is 1 hour. The next change is on Sunday, November 1, 2026 at 02:00 (clocks go back 1 hour), and from that day the difference with Brasília moves by one hour.
Brazil, for its part, has had no daylight saving time since 2019 and stays on UTC-3 all year, so every change comes from the Canada side. See the daylight saving time guide for dates by country.

Best times to call or hold a meeting
Assuming 9:00-18:00 office hours on both sides, the shared window runs from 10:00 to 18:00 Brasília time (09:00 to 17:00 in Canada), about 8 hours of overlap.
From Brazil, when it is 09:00 in Brasília, it is 08:00 in Canada (early, but reasonable); at 12:00 it is 11:00 (within office hours); and at 18:00 it is 17:00 (within office hours).
In the other direction, a call made in Canada at 9:00 reaches Brasília at 10:00 (within office hours); at 12:00 it is 13:00 there (within office hours); and at 18:00, 19:00 (late in the day, still reasonable).
The same arithmetic helps with flights, whose departure and arrival times on tickets are always in the local time of each airport, and with live broadcasts announced in another time zone. Always convert the announced time before you plan. The meeting planner compares both clocks hour by hour.
